Referring to Names

(slightly new username...had a nightmare with my last password! )

I have a spreadsheet where I want to perform lookups based on the rang
containing the same name as my column headers.

Is it possible to put into a lookup formula a cell containing the nam
of the range I want to look up, or do I have to state the actual nam
of the range itself?

do you mean
=HLOOKUP(X1,A1:D2,2,0)
where A1 stores the value to search in A1:D1
