Referenced cell doesn't equal cell it is referencing. Please help!

I have no idea what is going on but I have a worksheet where if I try to link
to a certain cell - ie, just a simple '=L8' it displays a different value
than is shown in that cell (when linked in certain cells, in others it's fine)
.. I can't figure out what is going on; it is not a huge file (under 7 MBs)
but there is a circular reference on the sheet and I'm wondering if Excel is
getting confused somehow? Or if my settings are off? My spreadsheet is
currently set to automatic calculation with maximum iterations of 100 and
maximum change of 0.001. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

What happens if you bring the window of a different application in front of
Excel and then bring Excel back to the foreground? A recent thread claims a
display issue in 2007, where some cells were calculating correctly but
failing to display the newly calculated value until forced to re-display.
