Reference to Bookmark in header not updating

Without accessing the header, how do I get the reference to the bookmarks to
update. I have an autonew macro that I'm using and I have a bookmark
around the field that is created using the autonew macro. Can I add
something to that macro to ensure that the bookmark reference is also
updated when the document is opened?
