OS: XP Home with latest critical updates & most other
patches.
ISP: a DSL (512/768?) provider, LinkSys (hardware) Router
(One XP laptop & one iMac on with no
intercommunication/file/printer sharing on LAN)
Anti-virus program: Trend Micro's PC-cillin Internet
Security 2004 (AV, E-mail scan & Firewall enabled;
updated regularly.
Since the LinkSys router provides a hardware firewall,
and since PC-cillin provides a software firewall, is
there any point in enabling XP's ICF? Could it slow down
the Internet connection? I did read one web discussion
wherein it was claimed that if one had a hardware
firewall, e.g., router, XP's ICF should NOT be enabled,
although I have not noticed any problems...I'd rather be
too cautious than too carefree.
