Reducing UI icons in Word 97

I have difficulty differentiating graphical information when similar images
are side by side. I work much better when menu options are labeled with
words. Is there any way to remove the Word 2007 ribbon's command images and
just view the command names instead?

You might be able to do something like that with one of the products
described at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeRibbon.htm.

I installed RibbonCustomizer, but it does not allow the user to reduce the
amount of graphical information in the ribbon. I am really being slowed down
by the amount of information that competes for my attention in the menus. For
example, because keyboard shortcuts are not indicated by underlines in
command names and have been replaced with popup letters, when I press Alt, I
see a command indicated by an icon, a text label, and a popup letter; that's
a lot of data. It would be much easier for me to have a a simple list of
command names with the keyboard shortcut letter underlined.

As well as reduced graphical information, using keyboard shortcuts is
essential for me due to an injury that makes repetetive mousing impossible.

Any ideas on how I can simplify the menu views to speed up my work?

I'm sorry, but your problem has been completely ignored by the Microsoft
redesign. The only option I can think of is to stay with Word 2003 as long
as possible, using the Compatibility Pack to work with 2007-version
documents when necessary, and hope that the next version is less extreme
than 2007's iron refusal to allow customization.
