Reduce login time when not connected to network

Running Windows XP with SP2. Client reports OS loads quickly when connected
to company network but when working as a stand alone laptop the OS loads very
slowly.

I know the slow loading of the OS is the result of the system looking for
DHCP and then timing out.

Is there a means by which when the client is not connected to the network
the system doesn't try to first connect via DHCP but instead just loads OS?

A disabled network connection won't look for DHCP. Disable the
network connection before disconnecting from the company network.
Enable it after connecting to the company network.
