I have a problem with an Excel file that keeps growing,
almost after every Save. And it does that, even if the
change in the spreadsheets or in the macros is very samll
or zero. I.e. changing a range in a macro or editing a
formula in a cell. I use Excel 2000. Any ideas on how to
reduce the file size?

Open it with the shift key down in another version of Excel, then save &
exit. File size could be down by as much as 40%!

Bob,

Sorry for all of the questions but your answer was intriguing!

What is occurring behind-the-scenes with your suggestion?

Why does the file size decrease?

What does one do if only one version of XL is available?

What if one saves the file as another version and opens it with the
shift key down?

What does the shift key down do?
