redirected to page with single banner ad

I've had two separate occurences of this today (for the first time). When performing a search at IMDb, I was redirected to a small banner ad for Amazon.com, with the URL: http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm? (and then more). Earlier today we were clicking links at pogo.com, and also being redirected to a larger banner ad for Amazon.com, with the URL: http://209.47.15.67/int/set?type=120-600 . Can anyone tell me 1) what's wrong, and 2) how to fix it? Thanks.

I never clicks ad links. they can be bad. down load
ad-aware or spybot to see if you have a small bit of
spyware now on your system. lavasoftusa.com or
safer-networking.org and then update after install.
by the way at pogo they are now also adding a user
identifiable cookie from one of their cohorts.
ea.rpts.net is the cookie

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

I appreciate everyone's help with this. I was able to eliminate the problem (browser hijacking) by downloading Ad-aware 6.0 from www.lavasoftusa.com AND the upgrade for it (dated yesterday). It was an easy download / install, but for novice users like me the upgrade was a bit trickier than I am used to - BUT without the upgrade this particular problem was not resolved. It's not difficult - simply download the upgrade, click on the file, and when prompted to extract the contents, locate the Ad-aware file you previously downloaded and allow the reference file to be overwritten. Re-open Ad-aware and run the scan again, and the hijacking is finished

To anyone encountering the same problem and looking for a solution that works, this did it.

Again, thanks for the assistance

Why not just opening AdAware and from the applet just check for updates, all
is done automatically.

I encountered the same problem, but I haven't been able to fix it
through Ad-aware6 (last update: today). Did you upgrade to any
not-for-free version of AA6?
