Redetect hardware.

In windows 98 and ME i was able to go to control panel -> system. There
i could delete my sound card and select refresh which would re discover the
new hardware. Is there a way I can do this in XP. I dont want to remove
the hardware and reboot the PC.

Desmond,

Control Panel ... System ... Hardware (tab) ... Device Manager (button) -
you can now Deinstall a device or even force a Scan for hardware changes etc
(just right click on a device)

Control Panel - System - Hardware - click Device Manager

There select the device concerned and take Action - Uninstall. OK and
reboot for PnP and New Hardware to handle the matter
