Just joined the group so am not aware of any answers to this common
problem. Can I change red x's to the actual pix and how can I prevent getting
these pesky x's when I forward photos that I get okay.Am using Outtlook
Express and it's set to include pix in message body. TIA Stan

Hi, Stanley.

As said so often here: Empty your Internet cache.

In IE, click Tools | Internet Options... On the first (General) tab, under
Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files... Then, especially if you
have broadband, which can download pages almost as fast as it can retrieve
them from the cache, go to the Advanced tab of Internet options, scroll all
the way down to Security, and check the box to Empty the TIF each time you
exit IE.

I too have the same problem with re X's and have emptied the Cache 'til I'm
blue in the face and that Still does NOTHING. I also Empty the TIF on exit
and still doesn't help. I only get the re X's sometimes but not always

Hi, Dick - and all.

Well, the problem is partly that I read and typed too quickly. The fix
(empty the cache) is for the frequently-asked-question about the user being
unable to download .bmp files; they complain that they get only .jpg
instead.

For the Red X problem, the first step is still to click Tools | Internet
Options... Then click the Advanced tab and scroll down to the Multimedia
category and be sure to check all these boxes, especially the one to Show
pictures.

But, I'm not really very strong in this area, so if this doesn't work, I'll
let someone else follow up. Sorry if I sent you in the wrong direction.

Its been an issue for a long time... Some will be millitant that its not an
issue cus they have never seen it... others will be militant cus they have
seen it... why can there be no peace# :-) #. Seriously tho... some people
will state that its realted to Norton Antivirus, try
uninstalling/reinstalling if you run it, but that never worked for me, some
people will blame firewalls, again not an issue for me either, i've tried on
both red side and greenside of hardware firewalls, tried disabling local
firewall, shoot even temporarily UNINSTALLING local firewall... all to no
avail. Happens ON ALL THREE of my WindowsXP machines..... and only in IE or
its wrappers (I use Avant). Sadly mozilla browsers aren't as good of an
option anymore since lots of webmasters write IE specific code, and netscape
doesn't properly render the page, but i still keep a copy of Netscape
installed for those sites that come in mostly shades of Red X's. Gets
really annoying when webcoders use the infamous 1x1pix transparent gif for
text formatting... sometimes IE will put a red"X" placeholder where there
would normally be a very minor break in flow of text... oh well. Perhaps
SP2 will fix this, but i doubt it.... I've had it on various machines since
98SE, on both dialup and broadband access. I just live with it since i
can't find any way to fix it... and i do have all patches installed and
running... tried uninstalling software, but amazingly i have it worst on my
laptop that has NOTHING installed beyond windows! (havent even installed
office yet, clean install of winXPpro.....)
