Andy

When I open up IE on some pages, I get a small red x.
Does anyone know how to fix this. Sometimes it seems it
has to do with Adobe...
Anyone know of a fix here?
Thanks for all your help!

Are you using a Firewall or "filtering software"?

Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]
Reset "Ad Blocking" and "Cookie Control" to "medium"
"Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS)[Enable Browser Privacy - enabled]
Active Content - "Allow All Script To Execute"
Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption
Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

Web Pages Display a Red "X" Instead of a Graphic

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer"
or contains entries that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.
Symptom: Page cannot be displayed / Cannot find server or DNS Error

In the event you can not access a site or missing graphics and
you believe it may be due to an entry in the HOSTS file.

You can use a simple batch file to rename the HOSTS file "on-the-fly".

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

Actually I'm not using anything like that, but it seems to
do with Adobe Acrobat. When any page links over to Adobe,
it's not opening it up. I've tried everything, and on my
second machine ti works fine, but this one, it doesn't. I
just get the red x?
Any way you can help I apprecaite very much!
Thanks Mike

W98SE/AMD/256MB/20GB
IE 6.0.2800.1106CO + SP1
It seems an eternal nuisance
When I startup everything is fine; then after intensive
work/surfinf/banking/downloading suddenly The Red X appears.
Analysis:
In my case View > Encoding > West European (Windows) is unvoluntarily unchecked
and West European (ISO) is checked, with the setting Automatic checked.
Auto Off makes no difference for the symptoms.
Solution:
I close IE6, then go to C:Windows > Temporary Internet Files > Content and
DELETE the complete Content file neglecting the warning.
I do a hot reboot (Shift + Restart) and everything is fine for half a day or so.

Any other suggesytions?

Andy,
If it's a problem specific to Adobe, uninstall the
program and reinstall with the latest version.

Maria,
You may need to clear your TIF as you may have a corrupt file there.

Close all instances of OE and IE
Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab
Click the "Delete Files" button, when prompted place a check in:
"Delete all offline content", click OK
Click the "Clear History" button, click OK.
Click the Settings button, adjust the TIF size to 50 mb, click OK

Possibly your cache folder is corrupt:
