Red X on pictures

I'm new to this and have XP installed. When I look at a
lot of websites instead of getting a pisture I get the
Red X in the corner. What do I need to change in my
settings to view the picture? Thanks

Assuming that you can see some pictures, the Windows XP logo at the top of this page for instance, it's is not your PC or XP that's the problem here, but the web site you are visiting
The red X is a symbol used by Internet Explorer when the web server doesn't return the requested picture

Try going to java.sun.com and download the java VM

In IE, go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Multimedia section and make sure the box "Show Pictures" is
ticked.
