red shield in tray - windows hangs

I am running Windows XP home. Sometimes Windows freezes on startup, and
whenever this happens, a shield with a red cross appears in the system tray.
I did a search for this file and found it at:
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\redshd.gif
Can anyone tell me what this icon signifies and what it indicates about the
computer freezing.
