Red email message appeared in my inbox & a shield with an x on it

A bright red email message appeared in my inbox. To the left of the title is
a red shield with an X on it. It looks ominous and I'm afraid it is a virus.
I have run AVG and Spy Bot and both say the computer is fine. However, the
bright red email is still in my in box. What do I do?
