Standard Data Recovery Information:

DO NOTHING FURTHER ON THE DRIVE. The data is still on the hard drive but
if you overwrite it, it will be extremely difficult or impossible to
recover it. If you use data recovery software, install it on another
machine and either use it from that operating system or create a
bootable cd/floppy and work with that. If you don't have the skill
and/or equipment to do these procedures and the data is crucial, take
the machine to a professional computer repair shop that has experience
in doing data recovery. This will not be your local version of
BigStoreUSA. In-shop data recovery is usually not exactly cheap (for
ex., my charges are generally $150-350USD), but it normally costs less
than sending the drive to a company like Drive Savers. You need to make
the determination of the value of your data and decide what to do.

If you want to try and retrieve the data yourself, here are links to
various data recovery programs:

When a file is deleted it is not removed from the drive. It's entry in the
directory is replaced and the space it occupied is marked as available but
the file is still there. So there can be a high probability of success to
recover the file with recovery software. However, the more you use the
drive, the greater the chance that space is overwritten which greatly
reduces the change for success. The Will and Malke gave you links to data
recovery software.

I would like to add that were there in place a backup mechanism such that
there is always a full and complete backup of data, that greatly reduces the
amount of data loss. Of course it doesn't help if you just downloaded the
photo, and a few minutes later deleted it as you did. But if you don't have
a regular backup regimen in place now is the time to set one up.

You probably will have as much luck trying to "retrive" them as you
would have winning the Mega Millions lottery.

This isn't true. Data recovery software works very well which is why it
is so important to wipe your drives before you throw them out. Naturally
it depends on 1) the health of the hard drive; 2) whether the files have
been overwritten; 3) the skill of the user. But it isn't rocket science
and there is a good chance the OP can retrieve his/her files.

I doubt that the OP has/had the sense to stop everything so that
his/her files wouldn't be over-written.

There are few people who are willing to pay the price to retrieve such
info. Most because it seems expensive, and the rest because it seems
to be too complicated.

Thus my comment. Which I stand by.
