Recycle Bin

When I delete an item it does not show up in recycle bin. If I click "empty bin" it asks me if I want to delete x number of items, but none are there. I tested and sent, for example, 3 items. None were diplayed. But when I clicked "empty bin", it asked was I sure I wanted to permanently delete these 3 items.....but the bin was empty. The items seem to go to the bin, but do not show up in the window. Any ideas?
 
Note: Files that were previously deleted will be permanently erased from the
Recycle Bin.

Create a notepad document and save it (any name will do).
Now delete the file so that it goes to the recycle bin.
Empty the recycle-bin.

To test, create another file and then delete it – does it now show up in the
recycle bin?

Thank you. I did what you suggested and as it happens it is working tonight. I will keep the web site you posted in case it happens again and deleted items stop showing up in the recycle bin again. Thank you for your time and help.
