recycle bin empties on it's own each time I reset/shutdown

The post at "recycle contents invisible" didn't help. I've only had the
machine (Windows XP Media Center for 2 weeks; I just noticed this so I don't
know how long it's been going on. Files go into the recycle bin okay and I
can restore them easily. However as soon as I reset or turn off my PC and
turn it back on, the entire contents of the Recycle bin are gone, not
invisible, but gone entirely. I've seen the support page at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/136517/EN-US/ but this just refers to
Windows95/98 and NT machines. I'm reluctant to try it without some
confirmation that it won't do more damage.

Any suggestions?

No I'm not, but I solved the problem. I was transfering a lot of software to
the new machine. One of them was HistoryKill by TrustSoft. The settings in
an obscure screen defaulted to "clean recycle bin" upon exit . I fixed it
and I'm back in business. Next time I'll slow down on the software
installations.

This is a great site. Thanks for responding.
