Recurring folder on desktop

I am using XP SP3 with Word 2003 and have a somewhat strange issue I would
appreciate some feedback on.
I created a folder on my desktop that I stored items in before transferring
them named ‘Compilation.’ After I stopped using this computer for
transferring stuff, I deleted the folder, emptied the recycling bin, ran
CCleaner, and disk clean up.
For some reason that’s beyond me, thereafter everytime I have started my
machine the folder re-appears! I have tried changing the name, but a new
‘Compilation’ folder still shows up.
Any ideas as to how I can make it go away?

I don't KNOW what's causing the problem but highly suspect you set that
folder-name in Word 2003. Upon boot, preliminary software for MS Word is
launched, then restores a folder it expects to see (in this case
'Compilation').

There's a good chance using 3c273's recommendation to scan the registry may
turn up the offending occurrence, but checking Words preferences may do the
same.

When I read "ccleaner" then I read "registry cleaner" and I get very
suspicious. It could well be the cause of your problem rather than being a
solution for some problem that never existed.

What is the preliminary software for MS Word that gets launched on
boot?

Where in MS Word would I verify the folder(s) that MS Word expects to
see?

I want to check mine.

3c273 / Louis ,
to do a registry search for the word "compilation," do I use the regular
search box of is there a run command that I need to use?
TIA

Thank you, Louis... turns out that I composed a f/u thread request at the
same time you were answering my question.
