Hello. I have a little story leading up to my question.
I recently discovered I had the lovely Blaster worm in my
Windows XP PC. I managed to get rid of the nasty thing
thanks to help from this group. Everything seemed to work
fine for a couple of days, with the exception of not being
able to install the patch...kept telling me there was an
error and the download couldn't continue. Right after
this happened, my computer chose to shut itself down and
when it seemed like it was rebooting, I got an error
message saying that a .DLL file is missing and
winlogon.exe wouldn't run, therefore I am not able to use
the computer at all.

Here's the interesting part...when I bought my HP, I
bought it refurbished from ecost.com, who didn't furnish
me with any recovery disks so NOW I can't even reformat
the computer.

THE QUESTION IS - does anyone know where I might be able
to obtain recovery disks for Windows XP or would anyone
happen to know if a place like CompUSA would be able to
help me in this? I'm going out of my MIND!!!

Thank you VERY much in advance! :)

HP have taken to putting recovery stuff in a hidden partition of the
hard disk, and you activate that by hitting a hotkey at the POST memory
check (same way as for a BIOS setup). I *think* the key is F12, you may
have to experiment.

And BTW, once the system is restored, as first action after setting up
the internet connection, before you ever connect, go to Network
Connections; r-click the connection, Properties - Advanced and enable
the firewall - or you will have Blast hit you again while you are
getting the patch for it (which is at
