Recovery from virus

I have been hit by viruses and/or adware and/or spyware programs
and am now trying to recover from the damage they did to my PC.
Several of the viruses are cata.exe, omnigate.exe, preInsTT.exe,
Dyfuca.S, and boYlcx9.exe. My PC is running Windows XP Home Ed.

The virus(es) mainly affected one account which was taken over
and made unusable.

Several of the symptoms are listed as follows:

The start up icons are present but no action takes
place when selected

The toolbar has been "modified" and made unusable

The Task Manager will not run when selected

The START button has been deleted from the the task bar !!!
(this is extremely bad as of course no application
can be run and that I cannot change to another account
except by rebooting the PC)

I finally figured out how to delete the account and the several
viruses inside its folder by changing the folder's ownership.
Note: I used several virus checking programs and all were unable
to "see" the viruses until I changed ownership of the account
folder ???

The problem I now have is that when I create a new account it comes
up with the same symptoms listed above. How do I fix this?

I have reloaded Windows XP which did not make any difference. It
appears to me that the "default" Personal Settings "file" has been
corrupted. How do I uncorrupt this?

Or possibly some required XP files have been deleted. If so, can
someone tell me how to restore these lost files?

Several AV programs presently do not detect any viruses
on my PC.

Please give me directions on how to solve this problem.

Your system isn't clean yet. Run all of these: Ad-Aware, Spybot,
CWShredder, HijackThis and Housecall:

If all of this has been done:

EXE and LNK Fix for Windows XP - Line 12

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Restore the Taskbar and Start Button to XP Default:
