Recovery disk

Hi
I want to back up my computer incase of hard disk failure and wondered if anyone could help me with using the 'Automated System recovery Wizard' (this is in the advanced mode of the backup wizard). It says it will create a floppy with my system settings and then a disk of my windows partition. I am wondering how long this may take and how many cd recordable disks(700mb) I might need for the job. I have my hard drived partitioned into three sections and the data stored is presently about 10gb. Or is there a better way for me to back up all my settings etc? My OS is XP Professional

What is the ASR feature in Windows XP? How do I use it?

If you wish to make a true "image" of your hard drive,
then a third-party imaging program is your best solution.

Norton Ghostâ„¢ 2003 protects your data from computer disasters.
The intuitive Windows® interface makes it easy to create regular
backups of your hard drive. You don't even need to make a boot disk.
File restoration is simple from the comprehensive disk image.

Thanks for you reply. I like the idea of the 'Ghost copy' but really don't want to spend more money after just having the cd rewriter installed! Thats why I am trying to find the easiest and quickest route to backing up my pc. I have taken a copy of all my important data but understand I should create a start up disk in case of hard disk failure? I am confused as to what is the best thing to do. Go the ARS route or can I just do a system state data floppy maybe? Do you have any more advise you can give me?
Its all very much appreciated

The freeware, DrvImagerXP, is the answer. I can thoroughly recommend it. I
run it everyday.

It requires .NET Framework though. Click the Help button to read the
pictorial instructions and its general methodology.
