Use of your recovery volume should be covered in your system manual. It
varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you do not have a manual,
consult the web site support for your system.
You should not alter or attempt to change anything about the recovery
volume.
If you look through the All Programs group, you should find an OEM applet
that allows you to reboot into the Recovery software from Windows. On a
friends Gatewat laptop, you press F12 and it boots into it.
Microsoft requires that OEMs and system builders provide support for Vista;
Microsoft sells Vista to them at a lower price and provides no free
personalized support. Knowing that they have to provide this support, the
OEMs like HP customize the help and support facility on the computer so that
it contains extensive information specific to that installation on that
brand of computer (this is much cheaper that providing telephone or online
chat support).
Start Help & Support and search for recovery; you should find all the info
you need.
