Recovery Console XP Pro

puter crashed & i found fix for error...Told me to enter
Safe Mode w Command Prompt & type "*_*" in recovery
console However I CANN'T TYPE anything! 30 seconds after
into recovery console it will rebooth or if I hit enter.
Upon entering RC it spits out 22-24 lines of data - hence
this is last entree:
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(o)partition(1)window\sys32
\drivers\mup.sys

Maybe running xp at this time even in safe mode wont
work,try installing xp cd,boot to cd,recovery,if asked
for password press the enter key,this mode might let
you type in info.For help type:HELP You probably will
need to at leat type:CHKDSK C: /R
This repairs the hd,which you listed in entree.When its
thru,type:EXIT

mup.sys is the last entry. The problem with non normal modes is that you
can't see if chkdsk is running or possibly other reasons. I suspecting this
is why mine froze in command prompt at the same screen. Now I just use boot
log - I can see chkdsk running and my PC boots up.
