Is there a way to restore a file that was replaced? I had a file, saved it
then later came back to that same file and created a new file using it as a
template. I mistakenly clicked "save" instead of "save as" and now I have
lost my original document. Help???

Restore from the backup. You have overwritten what is on the hard drive.

ok, how do I do that? I don't know that I have a backup or how to access it.
Help?

If you don't know whether you have a backup, you pretty surely don't.
Your file is gone.

A backup is a copy of important file saved to a separate medium in case
something happens to the original. If you didn't take this precaution,
then there is not much hope of easy recovery. Data recovery labs make
good money recovering data in such cases, read 1000's of dollars, so
it's not something you do to save a couple hours typing.

You may well not have a back up if you didn't make one.
However some programs can do it automatically or save incremental changes
made to the file. It depends. And that is all that can be said since you
haven't even bothered to say anything other than it is a file.

Your original work is now toast.
