Vista, Office 2007 PC attached to MS Small Bus Svr 2003 ... PC Motherboard
crashed totally. Moved Hard Disk to new computer and reinstalled with XP
Pro and Office 2007 .. all is fine but cannot see old PST, but can see OST
with correct date. Is there any way short of paying big bux to move emails,
contacts, etc. from OST to new PST ?

Were you using Exchange mailbox? If so, its in the ost, but you don't need
it - the mail is stored in the mailbox and just copied to the desktop, in
the ost.

I agree with Diane but you may have archived some email into PST file(s).
When you reinstalled the OS (WinXP Pro), did you reformat your HD? If so,
say good bye to your PST file. If you store email in your Exchange mailbox
and don't use PST at all (for archival), you lose nothing.

OST is a result of synchronizing your Exchange mailbox for offline use so
that when Exchange server is unavailable, you can still use Outlook to
compose or read email.

John & Diane ... Thank you for your interest ... The new machine came
with its own hard drive, so the old Vista drive is now Drive D. The old
Vista drive will not boot the new machine. The new machine has the same
machine name and my user name and password has not changed. However, when I
try to access my old outlook files on the Vista (D) drive, security prevents
me from accessing the Local Settings folder where the Outlook PST files were
stored. I can access the OST file which was stored in a different location.
I tried safe mode as Administrator, took Ownership, and still am locked out
of the Local Settings, as well as the old My Documents.

AARRRGGGHHHH ... I am a Microsoft Pro since the early 80's, and install
networks for clients routinely.. I know I can pay from $ 99 to $ 599 for a
commercial package to do OST to PST, but that is not happy.

Do you still have access to the exchange server? If so, you don't need the
ost.

To take ownership of the folders you need to give your new acct permission
to at least read the old local folders. Even though the user names are
identical, the SID is not and the old drive is using the old SID.
