recover deleted files

can i recover a file that has been deleted from a network
drive? as i found out the hard way they dont go in the
recycle bin! i seem to remember in win 3.1 that if you
knew the name of the file you could just use a wild card
in the first characters place, what else would i need to
do. will this work in xp? and has anyone heard of the
program
diskkeeper and undelete?
