With a teenager and wife who are collecting large files fron DVD's and
ReplayTV programs eating up hard drive space, I thought that I would
purchase a large hard drive for storage and use it for backup, as well.
I am looking for a quiet, sturdy drive. I have a priority for
longevity, as it will mainly be for backup purposes.

Thanks

Don't tell the disk this. It's a sure bet it will die within the
month.

But seriously, one backup of anything is a risk. The worst case is
your system disk dies while you are doing your backup, which means
you've got two damaged copies of your data.

If your backup is filling more than half the backup disk get a second
disk and flipflip between them.

Is there a recommended brand of removable trays for hard drives that can
be used for SATA drives? I would swap them more easily, I would think.

Kingwin makes them, I haven't used them yet.

Google "Kingwin SATA Aluminum Mobile Rack"

They look pretty nice; choice of plastic or aluminum and 0, 1, or 2
fans. I would be concerned about heat buildup inside the inner tray, so
I will opt for two fans, depsite the noise.
