I have a database that I keep records on several buildings like the super's
name and apartment number, boiler information etc...
at times some records go blank almost all the information gets lost, and the
fileds that are not erased it changes it to unreadble characters.
does anyone have an idea of why this happens?

Corruption. At times like this, nothing beats a good backup. In fact make a
complete backup of your database now and put it away for safe keeping.

Tony Toews has an excellent web page on database corruption.

Allen Brown also has excellent info on corruption.

I have a white paper in a Word document named Fix Corrupt Access Database
