Recording logon details

Brian H

Scenario: Secondary School running a Win 2000 Server
domain with a mixture of 'thin' clients and Win
2000/XP 'thick' clients. All users logon to the domain
(i.e. there are no local m/c logons).

I am attempting to produce a log file (text/csv?) of the
following data at user logon and logoff:
Action (logon/logoff)
Date and time
Client m/c IP address
User name

Is this possible? Is third party software required?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am tearing out
what little hair I have.

You could enable auditing for logon events on the domain controller which
will show most if not all of that info except possibly ip address [machine
name for sure] in the security log of Event Viewer. There are third party
tools that can take that data and present a more friendly report. Someone
else will have to recommend that, I do not know a good one offhand or search
http://www.Google.com for "Windows security log reports ". --- Steve
