Record New Macro

In WinXP, MS Outlook 2003, when I go to Tools => Macro, there is no
"Record New Macro" option, i.e., no [apparent] way to record a
"keystroke" macro (such as is presented in MS Word). It is there if I
am using MS Word as my E-Mail editor (using MS Word's menu system and
VBA), but it isn't there if I'm composing my E-Mail messages in plain
text (using Outlook's VBA). Is it gone altogether, or hidden in some
non-obvious place?

I am looking at page 294 in the Show Me! Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003 book, and is gives instructions on how to
record a macro while writing an email message. It says I
should be able to Click Tools, Macro and then select
Record New Macro - HOWEVER, this does not show up on my
menu in Outlook 2003. Do you know how I would get that
turned on, or is the book just plain wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Outlook has no macro recorder. Neither does FrontPage or several other
Office programs.

There is plenty of VBA sample code available, though. Start at

For plain text message composition, it appears that the book is just
plain wrong. However, if you have a preference set to use MS Word as
your e-mail message body editor, then you can use the macro editor
that is in MS Word.

The message format has nothing to do with what editor is in use. If you are
using Word as the editor, you can use its macro recorder, yes, but it will
create a macro in Word, not a macro in Outlook VBA that uses Outlook
objects. .
