Recommended Programs List

While trying to edit a certain data file with an unknown
extension, I accidentally opened the file in the Notepad,
thereby setting Notepad as the default application. I
managed to delete the record of this extension through
the File Types window, but when I open this type of data
file and opt to choose my own program to open it, Notepad
is still listed under the 'Recommended Programs', even
though it is definitely not a recommended program. My
question: is there any way to edit/clear the Recommended
Programs list for a certain file extension? Thanks in
advance for any help.

From what you originally did, you're in the right place.

I took a quick look and if you click on [change] then you
can change the immediate program this file extension is
associated with.
If you have the option of 'always use the selected
program to open this type of file' - then untick it.

good luck
