Recommended cooler for AMD Athlon XP 3000+

I need some advice for which CPU Cooler i should buy,
Now i have a Zalman 6000 which don't work fine for me, because the temp.
increases quick to almost 72° C when CPU is full loaded. This is not only
caused by the Zalman, but is also because of a bad system case with a very
bad airflow.

So i am gonna buy me a Chieftec BX where i want to build in my Asus A7N8X
Deluxe and AMD Athlon XP 3000+ etc. I have decide to change the cooler too.
But what cooler do you recommend me to use for my 3000+?

I don't want the watercooler, but do want a very good one, easy to install
and what can be used for my motherboard AND Chieftec BX. I did several
searches on Google for the most recently reviews, but couldn't find what i
am looking for, so who is willing to help me with advice?

I have that board and found the Volcano 11+ is really good. 2500+ @
3200+ never goes above 44C in Probe. You can turn the fan down to
almost silent when the CPU has little load. But you can crank it for
gaming or video editing. As long as you remove the grill from the fan
on the CPU it does not sound like a dust buster. If you do that don't
ever put your fingers in the case when the powers on.

Any fan that cools really good will make a lot of noise.
There is no "silent, quiet" or other so called type as they just run at
lower rpm and push less air.
The Zalman that has no fan on but has it on a bracket above is no different.
That is only so called quiet at low speed.
My Thermaltake Silent Boost is as quiet as any that run at low speed and it
runs at low speed all the time.
I have an Antec SLK3700 quiet case(just anti vibration HD mounts and 120mm
rear fan mounts) and my cpu and case temps are higher than my last case.
My cpu temp is around 60c under load and around 46-52 non load.

At 3000rpm a fan will cool and at 1000-2500 not as cool.
My old HAV-81 cooled really good as long as it ran at over 3000rpm.
It has the same cooling power/speeds as the Volcano 11

any of those will be ok with your board(same as mine), cpu and case.
All of those give good cooling for your cpu.

You also have the Chieftec BX? The newest Zalman 7000 for example can give
some problems with placing in the case because the diameter has to be 55 mm
around the CPU and because my Zalman 6000 is placed very close to the case
can give the 7000 some problems .... That's why i don't want to take a risk
with buying the Zalman 7000.

I need a fine cooler which don't give me that sort of problems. I read good
reviews of CoolerMaster but can't make a choice. They are from 3200+ and up,
but mine is 3000+ and should give no problem they write, but which one
should i buy?

Specific i.c.w. with the Chieftec BX, Asus A7N8X Deluxe and Athlon XP 3000+
Do all of those can be placed with no problems in the BX?

I've recently built a few new systems, 2 using the Coolermaster
aeroflow and one with a volcano 11. As to noise, I think the volcano
11 is louder. Both HSFs do a nice job of cooling. The aeroflow models
were easier to install, particularly on an A7N8X-DLX where the
clearance between the edge of the mobo and the PS comes into play.
The volcano 11 has a tapered fan shroud with a fan "footprint" larger
than normal HSF and one must gain access to the HSF clip from an angle
off of vertical (w/r/t the mobo), making it dang near impossible to
install or remove the volcano 11 w/o removing the PS or removing the
mobo (eek), unless you have a huge case and lots of room between the
PS and the mobo. Moral of the story: install the HSF when the mobo is
out of the case.

I'd recommend the coolermaster aeroflow, and am sad that the system I
built with the volcano 11 is my own :(.

One advantage of the volcano 11 is the included thermistor you can
mount to the underside of the cpu for automatic fan speed control.
One disadvantage is reading the instructions after you have mounted
the HSF, as that's when I discovered I should have mounted the
thermistor on the underside of the CPU, lol. Being something of the
lazy sort, and not wanting to take the PS out to remove the volcano
11, I did not install the thermistor so I don't use the auto speed
control option presently.

If you remove the grill it cuts the noise in half. That makes it
quieter than the Cooler Masters that are also without grills. I read
about removing the Volcano grill in a review and they were right.
Never put your fingers in the case with the power on though.

Amen to that ... I recently installed a Volcano 11+ to my Alienware
pc, with a FULL tower case ... and it was a royal pain to get it on ...
for the exact reasons you describe. (like the power supply only being
a couple inches away from the heatsink) .....

But, I have to admit, the thing is running a lot cooler now, but what a
hastle to get it on.

I highly recommend the Silent Boost - with my 3200+ Athlon XP overclocked to
2400mhz (normal is 2200mhz), without load my CPU temps are 36c socket/ 41c
diode. Under load, I'll get 44c socket/50c diode.
