Recommendation: Printer good w/index cards ?

Hi There,

I'm a graduate student who has to write a horrific number of research
papers. Most of my research is done on index cards. I want to automate
things a bit by typing my notes into my laptop and then printing them
out onto index cards.

Here's the problem: I currently own an HP 5740 Office Jet printer and a
Brother MFC-7420 Laser Printer and neither of them handle index cards
very well (jamming, uptake problems, etc.).

Can anyone recommend a low-cost inkjet printer that can handle either
3x5 or 4x6 index cards without a big problem.

Many thanks,
YYY

My suggestion is to think out of the box. Small index cards can't hold
much information anyway Go to bigger paper or use regular sized paper
and a notebook. Or you could use card stock and cut the index cards out
after printing. Print with borders and cut along the lines. You could
print multiple cards on one sheet.
PS. If you spend too much time on selecting printers, paper, and pens,
your overall performance on the project will be compromised.

Most printer will handle index cards just fine if you feed them one
sheet at a time. I don't know of a decent printer that can handle
multiples at a time if you needed to print a lot and leave the printer
running unattended.

Canon ip 3000 / ip5200

Media wise, it hadles 3x5 well, 4x6 boarderless

The pigment ink however does bleed if set to plain paper mode on many
off the shelf index cards.

I have a Canon Pixma 6000d. A hundred bucks at Amazon and the
cartridges can be refilled easily. I have put a stack of 50 cards (3x5)
in the top carriage and printed logos, no problem..
The neat thing is, you can load the cards, not sure about 3x5, but
sure about 4x6,(I keep 4x6 photo paper here) into the bottom cassette.
That way you can print either letter size from the top tray or the cards
from the lower cassette without the hassle of reloading or changing
anything. Just when you print you choose which tray you are printing from.

I might be mistaken, don't know if I loaded 50 (3x5)cards in the tray,
but I know 30 or so would be no problem..

Dye might bleed less than pigment, if so then one could select
something other than plain paper as the media type in the
ip4200/5200/4300
