I've experianced the loss of my sound devices, and heavy
instability on or around October 25th. I've reinstalled
XP pro, which seems to solve this issue. I had to do this
twice today, because at first I believed it to be a
hardware failure. So upon reinstalling the first time, I
went to Windows Update, and it happened again.

You have to be more precise in detailing the symptoms. "Loss of my sound
devices" means loss of sound, or the sound devices failed to show on My
Computer? "Heavy instability" is...?! After the first 'install' today, you
"went to Windows Update". Did you actually download and install an update,
or just access the Windows Update website? The specifications of your
computer system are helpful too.

Did you do a virus scan or use any programme(s) to eliminate trojans, worms,
etc.? Please post back with more details. By the way, a hardware failure
cannot be corrected by a reinstall of software.
