Recent Update Problems in IE6

Hi,
Does anyone know if Microsoft is going to update their recent Security
Update MS06-015, 908531.
It is causing problems in several applications as noted in Microsoft Article
ID 918165.

I have been having troubles saving documents in Word 2002 and also in typing
web addresses in IE where nothing happens when you try to go to a web site
that you have typed in.

I got tired of this and uninstalled the update. I'll just have to get used
to having the Windows Update symbol in my System Tray until Microsoft comes
out with a "fix".

Hi Don,
Thanks for the reply.
I do have HP's Shared to Web software installed but I haven't tried your
suggestion(s) yet.
I just found another problem with Word 2002 even though I uninstalled 908531
update. I can save documents to "My Documents" folder but if I try to save to
another folder, Word 2002 freezes up & I get the "The program is not
Responding".
Then, of course, I lose my document because Word shuts down.
Apparently some of the other four Windows Security Updates (911562, 911567,
912812 & 908531) that I installed are also causing problems.
Any suggestions short of removing all four updates to get my computer
running without problems as it was before these updates.
Thanks.

Hi,
If you have HPs Share to Web software installed, download and run the VBS
file "HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix " at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Line 383.

If Share to Web is not installed, or that fix doesn't work, see
http://www.aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=19125

Hope this helps,

Hi Don,
What happened is that Windows Update Site automatically reinstalled the
908531 update and my problems started again. I had to uninstall the update
again and I set the Update Site to notify me when there are critical updates
rather than have it set for automatic updates.

As far as the fix from kellys-korner, it didn't work for me.
I tried it during the time that 908531 was installed without my knowledge
and I was still having the same problems as before. I finally discovered that
908531 had been reinstalled.
As soon as I uninstalled the 908531 update, my problems, for the most part,
cleared up.

I noted there was another fix for these problems (KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip).
Does this do anything different than the fix at kellys korners?
Thanks

Hi,
Update 908531 was, as you know, also causing problems with various Office
programs. I haven't heard that another of the April 11 updates caused Office
problems. You might try the office.misc newsgroup
web access
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie.../default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.office.misc
or, in a Outlook Express or another newsreader

I am *almost* sure that KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip makes the same registry
edit as Kelly's VBS script.

I would uninstall the other updates one at a time to see of the Word 2002
problem is cured.

Hi Don,
Someone on another site recommended removing "HP Share to Web" and it solved
his problems.
I uninstalled this and reinstalled update 908531.
Now the only problem I notice now is when I try to save documents anywhere
but in "My Documents", it switches to "my name" Documents and then stays
there for 5 seconds or more and then all of the other locations to save
finally are listed. This never happened before.

Thanks
