I would use the explorer shell for this, such as your Documents folder and
have your View set to 'Date Modified'.

I've been tinkering with that since you suggested it Andre, but I can't find
a way for the settings to stick so that when you click the recent items
button in the start menu.
However, I did come up with something else. I don't know if the OP will like
this or not. It's a couple of extra steps.
It is possible to put a shortcut on your desktop to Recent Items. And you
can set up the folder the shortcut links to to show the files in order of
the most-recent use. Or you can sort them any other way you can sort a
folder.
How to do it: Right click the Recent Items button in the start menu. Choose
Send To. That will open a cascading menu. One of the choices is "Desktop
(create shortcut)." Choose that.
(I'm using Ultimate 64 bit, but I assume other versions offer the same
options. I could be ASSuming too much.)
Note that when you create that shortcut and use it, you may have to add a
column in the folder so that it shows date modified. If OP doesnt know how
to do that, just ask. We'll tell.
