Herb

I have a program for which the list of recently used files is stored in
the registry in the form of variables called DVIMRU1, DVIMRU2, DVIMRU3,
DVIMRU4, DVIMRU5

Would it be possible to increase the number of files beyond 5 by
introducing new DVIMRU values, or would this not work because the number
is generally coded into the software?

Thank you.

We've no idea. Not really a windows issue. Get in touch with the application
developer.

Thanks - I just wondered whether there is a general rule/trend/consensus
about this, or whether it is application-specific.

Yes, in this case application specific. The operating system doesn't read
these keys, the application does.

You're welcome.

(note: you can add them probably without harm but it's entirely up to the
application as to whether it is going to read them or not.)

OK, I just tried it, i.e. I added a new value (DVIMRU5).

No harm done, but no effect either, as you say :-(

Never mind.
