receiving spam from my own email address

I have recently started receiving spam inbox, and it is addressed from my own
email address. Huh? I don't have any items in the sent folder like the ones
I'm receiving../

I can only assume that other ppl are receiving the same sort of messages...

Has my computer been infected somehow?

Thanks for the help

Hi Willie,
first of all don't panic! I know that it is a bit of a shock when you see
mails from yourself.

There are in fact a number of possible causes.

1: They are not really coming from you - but some spammer has obtained your
e-mail address and hidden characters in between ie

(e-mail address removed) can easily be:
[email protected]
(this is the most likely cause)

what happens is that people use hidden characters to make it seem as if it
has been sent from your e-mail address.

If you are using an exchange server - it might also be that an intruder has
been able to send mails using your account and cleaning up those nasty sent
items. If you believe this to be the case - then have your exchange admin run
a check.

It may also be that someone has gained access to your mailbox and has sent
mails using it to spam others.

If you suspect Malware (bad stuff - Spyware, dialers, trojans etc) then run

Microsoft AntiSpyware -

Let me know if you are still having probs and I'll help you sort your
security out.

good luck,

Chris
