Receiving' reported error (0x8004210C) : 'Some messages you marked

My outlook is throwing a complete wobbly. After connecting over a very slow
GPRS connection last thursday it's started repeating downloads of messages
constantly although the account is configured not to leave messages on the
server.

A lot of the messages only downloaded the headers. In order to attempt these
messages constantly coming down I logged onto the pop3 mail box via a web
portal and deleted them from my mailbox. Now I cannot delete the messages
from my inbox until I've downloaded them & every time I carry out a send and
recieve I get a message "Receiving' reported error (0x8004210C) : 'Some
messages you marked for download are no longer available on the server.'"

Has anyone got any suggestions? I've trailed through the registry but am no
expert. I'm considering creating a new profile and transfering all my
accessible emails to a PST. I'd preffer not to though - any suggestions would
be gratefully recieved.

If you have an AV or firewall configured to scan incoming/outgoing email, this can cause what you are seeing. The AV/firewall "interrupts" the handshake between Outlook and the mail server, especially on slow hookups so the server never receives the "okay, got that one, next" command from Outlook so you get a loop with teh server thinking it has not downloaded the message.

It can also happen if you have an unrealistic send/receive interval set up and the accounts step on each other trying to comply with your schedule. I have mine set for 30 minutes. I would never set it for less than 10 minutes.
