Receiving Read Receipts When NOT Requested?

B

Ben

Hi,

We're running Outlook 2003 Sp1. One of our users has their options set to
request delivery status notifications on all their emails. However since
enabling this option, recipients of their emails are being asked for read
receipts, even though this option isn't being selected in outlook. It isn't
happening all the time either, from what we can gather, it's intermittent.

Can anyone suggest a reason behind this odd behaviour?

Regards

Ben

No idea. But I'd discourage this user from requesting delivery status
notifications by default, in the first place. Those are sometimes (not
always, and less & less often) useful for troubleshooting, but I don't see
the value in setting it as the default.

Do the other users have the option ticked not to send read receipts? Are you
using Exchange?

Hi Lanwench,

I've been trying to discourage it as well, but email has been a little
unreliable recently, and the user is paranoid emails might get lost. We're
not using exchange yet, I'm currently in the process of setting it up (will
hopefully be live end of next week), at the moment it's just smtp & pop via
our ISP. No one else is using the DSN or read receipts options.

Cheers
