Rebuild Dell. COA Problems?

A friend of mine has offered to sell me his fried Dell GX270 tower. Its
motherboard is a goner, black scorched bits. Ouch!

Anyways, I have a whole working system with a very knackered case and
no XP COA. If I put the guts into the Dell case, I know that I can
install XP using another disc, but will I be able to activate and use
it using the COA on the case without WGA alerts? I don't have a problem
with calling Microsoft to activate it, since I am just repairing the
dead computer I don't think I'm breaking any license agreements. Its
innards wont look like a Dell, though :o)

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

The Dell OEM license for Windows XP is only valid with
a Dell computer having a Dell motherboard. Since you
apparently installed a non-Dell motherboard, the license is
no longer valid. You'll need to purchase a conventional
"Full Version" of Windows XP.

Bummer. If that's true then buying a Dell with a Dell license is as bad
as buying a Mac. Upgrade potential - nill. :o(

Then buy a generic OEM copy or a full retail copy if you want to transfer
the license to another computer.

Nah. Gonna leave all the bits in the cupboard for now! Wouldn't have
minded getting another Windoze box for the price of the dead Dell, but
theres not much point if I have to buy another license anyways.

Cheers for the help!
Steve.
