Reasonable Transfer Rate (External Hard Drive)?

25MB/s. The 480Mb/s ( = 60MB/s) figure is pretty theoretic.
Handshaking and other things typically bring it down to
around 25MB/s.

This is more or less correct. My one gives me a little bit faster than 28
MBytes/sec. The hard drive itself is pretty fast - 0.5 TB, 7200 IBM/Hitachi.

Wrong. But you are improving on your 10-20MB/s earlier, babblebot.
Maybe -in a few years time- you will get it right, some day.
The 480Mb/s ( = 60MB/s) figure is pretty theoretic.

That figure has nothing to do with the user data transfer rate so it's
not theoretic at all.

Really, 'other things', huh?
typically bring it down to around 25MB/s.

Typical then that your favourite mag c't measured rates up to 34MB/s,
a few years back (c't 15, 2002). They must have been so very wrong.
This is more or less correct.

In other words, it's false.

What about firewire? Same overhead or not as much?

20-30MB/s. Intel USB2 is fastests.

It's starting to see like USB2 has been around a long time, it's time
for a faster USB3. Seems like it should at least match gigabit ethernet.

There's SATA/eSATA available for external enclosures @ 1.5Gbit/s.
Not as versatile as USB, but fast enough for disk transfers.

Yeah. But I really like the "universal" part of USB - one cable for my
external drive, mp3 player, gps, and camera. And yes, I actually have
taken all those on a trip at once before :) Now if only my cellphone
and PocketPC used a standard USB connector...

Which is exactly the same of what you had of USB, babblebot,

Hi Folkert, what about expressions in "pure" english?
What ist "babblebot" and what ist "shy now"?

Hello, Horst:

Well, "babblebot" is a "portmanteau" of the English words, "babble" and
"robot." Folkert Rienstra often uses it, to publicly mock Arno Wagner,
whom he apparently thinks prattles with machine-like regularity. <g>

As for the meaning of "shy now," Folkert was simply wondering why Arno
missed such a prime opportunity, to blather even further. ;-)

Cordially,

Hehe. The thing Folkers still does not understand is that I
do not read his postings. He seems to be pretty obsessive about
answering most of mine. Not that he has anything of value to say...

And the insult is stolen. I think I was the first here to accues
somebody of the trolls as being a bot. Not surprising that
Folkert does not have the creativity to come up with his own
insults, but it amuses me any time I see it that (when people
quote him, obviously) he actually stole from me to insult me.

A problem with your blather, babblehead?
Either that or you are laughing at yourself.
The thing Folkers still does not understand is that I do not read his postings.

Typical self-centered bablehead, thinks that my posts are meant for him.
Doesn't for a moment contemplate that I might actually use my own name
for the sole purpose of him *not* reading my messages so that it appears
to everyone else as if he agrees with me, by not coming back.

That I *not* use my own name to provoke him in saying even more stupid
things which apparently he tries to avoid by killfiling those that he fears.

So babblehead, if you don't read my 'postings' what are you doing here
exactly? Though you say you are not interested in what I post you al-
ways jump to react at the earliest opportunity when someone quotes me.
He seems to be pretty obsessive about answering most of mine.

Answering, babblehead?
Not that he has anything of value to say...

No, that is best left to you, obviously.
Like this post of yours, so much value.
And the insult is stolen.

Right, obviously insults can only be used once.

Ooh, babblehead, you live dangerously. You might risk an aneurysm,
certainly with that round the clock posting of yours.
Too little sleep, a thought, and hey poof ... vegetable plant.
I was the first here to accues somebody of the trolls as being a bot.

Right, so obviously you own that word, babblehead.
(Now let's see you claim using the word "head" first, before I called you
a babblehead).

Actually it was Chrisv that did use it but of course Chrisv obviously
stole your later thoughts for using the word "bot", babblehead.

The only time Google lists you with using the word "bot" was in lines where
you mistyped the word "both". Three instances no less, you must have some
obsession with that word.
http://groups.google.com/groups?as_...81&as_maxd=19&as_maxm=7&as_maxy=2007&safe=off

The fourth actually lists a post of yours using the word bot as intended.
Pity then that the word was used in a quoted line, babblehead, and
it wasn't your quote. It was from someone going by the nym "peecee".
So now you are actually listed as the blatant thief that you call me.
Not surprising that Folkert does not have the creativity to come up
with his own insults,

Like you had to steal that word from "Chrisv" and "peecee", babblehead?
Yes, that was so very creative of you. Creative is your middlename, isn't it.
What you don't know you just as easily make up.
but it amuses me any time I see it that (when people quote him, obviously)

Obviously. A person of your stature doesn't surreptitiously take a peek.
he actually stole from me to insult me.

Your arrogance -like your stupidity- knows no bounds either, does it, babblehead.

Such an open invitation to a troll, with lots of bait, babblehead,
yet no one wants to take it, and play with you. Not even Turco.
Even at your trolls, you stink, babblehead.

Hi Folkert, that's even worse:
NOT using Your name is much more shit that You throw on others.
And NOT anyone OTHER will read Your postings.

That's rubbish!

Rest ignored because of "heavy shit".
