readyboost performance improvement?

I'm curious if there's any numbers out there that quantify the performance
improvement of readyboost? Any reviews out there on the net? Any
preliminary figures from Microsoft?

You can't come up with an absolute figure because it depends on all the
other hardware and how you use your computer. Basically it gets rid of the
little lags caused by random disk I/O access. So the overall experience
feels more responsive and more fluid.

so, it reduces disk i/o. that's good news.

so, if we put the same machine through two benchmarks - once with readyboost
and once without, we should see some performance increase. for example, if
we ran a benchmark suite of common apps, we might see a 2% increase in
performance on the benchmark becasue of the reduced disk i/o?

i was just hoping someone had already done this. i haven't benchmarked
anything other than a video card in years. time to brush off the my
benchmarking skills and do a comparison this weekend.

Drives and flash memory products both vary in random I/O speed. But as a
general rule of thumb flash memory is about 10 times faster than a drive at
random I/O.
