reading saved .msg files

i used outlook 2000 for years and saved many .msg files to different Windows
folders. My hard drive crashed, installed new drive and Office 2003 and all
my backed up folders from the external hard drive.

Now, when I try to read an old saved .msg file it displays the To: CC: and
subject info but no contents.

When I attach the same saved file to an email and forward it to another
address I can open it and I can read the content.

How can I persuade the saved .msg file to display content when I open it in
its Windows folder?

How are you trying to read these old MSG files? Are you simply
double-clicking them in Windows Explorer or are you bringing them into Outlook
first?

Brian, I double click on the MSG file in its Explorer folder - it has
always worked before. I do not know \> how to bring them back into Outlook.

Open Outlook and drag the MSG files into an Outlook mail folder. Can you read
them now?

Yes, that works, thanks - is this the only way it can be done?

You _should_ be able to double-click them and have Outlook display them, but
since that's not working, what choice do you have?
