For some reason I'm receiving RTF files in my emails that
I cannot read. They are marked as .dat files and RTF is
not a format option. I've tried to open as PDF or Text
it's jibberish when I look at it.
This is probably something that has a simple explanination
that I can't figure out. If someone can answer or point me
in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
WWH

You tried them in Wordpad or WORD?

What program was used to make the .dat file? Why do you
think a file called .dat is really .rtf?

Do you know who is sending these emails? Do you have any
security software that filters your email?

Yes, I tried Word and WordPad first

I have had that problem in the past when someone sent an e-mail composed in
Outlook (not OE) using the RTF formatting option -- an attachment was
indicated, but absolutely nothing showed up in the body of the message. I
could only retrieve the message using a 3rd-party UU decoder.

It's apparently a known problem with Outlook, and can be resolved simply by
using the Plain Text or HTML formatting option.

Tell the senders to change their Outlook settings.
