Readability statistics

Whenever I use the grammar checker for readability stats, they never include
the correct word count. A 9,561 word document comes out as 1,206 (with or
without whole text selected).

Why is that and how can I change it?
 
I'd suggest asking this in a newsgroup related to Word.

This newsgroup is for questions about Access, the database product that's
part of Office Professional, which, as far as I know, doesn't report
readability statistics.
