read only

I am having difficulties with read only for some of my folders. I have
administrator rights, and go to Properties/General and click it off and
Apply. Come back and they are read only again???

Running XP Pro. Any help would be appreciated.

Some are set by the system to be this way.. files on CD are always read
only..

You can not accurately discern the state of the read-only bit for folders based on the properties
dialog; you need to add the attributes column to an Explorer detail view of the parent folder.

If a folder's read-only attribute is set, it doesn't affect your ability to manipulate files &
folders within that folder -- what do you mean when you say: "I am having difficulties with read
only for some of my folders"?

The read only setting in XP has no meaning for folders. They are always
open for reading/writing. That setting affects the attributes of the
files in the folder.

You Cannot View or Change the Read-Only or System Attribute of Folders
