Hi,

If I create a new Excel (XP) file and save it to our server, whenever
someone else tries to open it, it comes up as being 'Read Only'. I've
checked the 'Security' option and the read only check box is clear. Any
ideas ? Many thanks.

Regards Colin.

Does it open ReadOnly for you? If you saved it to the sharename, then you have
permission to write to that drive.

Maybe the others don't have the same permission. Excel is savvy enough to
respect those settings.

One the other hand, this answer to a FAQ may be germane (oddly enough, written
in English):

Q. All of a sudden a number of my Excel 2000 files have become "read-only".

A. Clear out c:\windows\temp directory on the machine that houses the files,
then reboot.

This is usually for files kept on a single pc, though. Maybe rebooting the
server would help if it didn't work directly.
