read only word docs

Everytime, I create a file folder or word document it saves as read only. I
have the read only icon unselected under security. How do I change this not
to be read only everytime someone wants to open my doc - I work in a law firm
- so, i need others to be able to open and make changes.

If you have the Read only option unselected for the document, check the
folder properties where the document is located.
