read only database???

Can someone help me figure out why on one workstation i have Access2003
front end reading a backend db on our server without any problem ( user
has 'limited' Privileges on XP) and on another workstation with the
exact same OS and Access version the user (with 'limited' privileges)
can only open the dbase as read only???

if i give the user admin privileges then he can read/write the dbase
without any problems but for obvious reasons i don't want to set that
user up with admin privleges on XP.

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Users need read/write/create/delete permissions on the folder where the
backend is located.

tks Joan,
in fact the server (which is where the backend is located) does have
read/write etc. all the other wkstns have no problem reading/writing
etc to it. There are 10 users who have access. for some reason these
other two can only read?
any other thoughts?

You said that they had limited permissions.

Double check that *all users* have the full permissions on the backend
folder.

With the problem users, do they have this same problem opening any mdb (try
Northwind).

Are they opening via a desktop shortcut, and if so, what's in the target?

What error message do they get?

Im having the same issue, only it is all users unless they are a member of
the Administrators.
I have verified the users have full rights to the folder and database files.

Found a solution:

If I go into the local machine's user profile to the Application Data/Microsoft/Access folder and delete the System.mde file, the user can then open the database in shared mode
